Inuyasha

I'm rereading/rewatching Inuyasha for my isekai presentation. And can I just say... I appreciate Inuyasha so much for what it is. I spent SO LONG trying to find a recent isekai anime/manga that wasn't overflowing with fanservice and harems. That turned out to be a REALLY HARD TASK. Like, some might not have a lot of fanservice in them, but they're just weird or not great? It's hard to commit to something new and hope that it'll be good for the presentation, because often times it can get bad later on. There was this one that I tried to watch, but in the first episode (which was a whole hour by the way), a woman in the show falsly accuses the main character of sexual assault and rape. And like. WHAT?! That's how a show about four heroes sent to an RPG game world starts?! I was mad for it wasting an hour of my time. Then, I tried to read one about a college girl dying and being reincarnated in a world without books as a littler girl. Her whole dream is to be a l

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness

This book is fantastic. It beautifully illustrates the struggles with everyday life while dealing with mental illnesses. I think it was especially strong of Nagata Kabi to put herself on display as a lesbian, and someone with mental illnesses because it can help others who are going through similar situations. Also, because those things aren't as widely accepted in asian cultures. It was a great time to read, and after reading initially her exchange diary, I went and bought all three of her books. I am currently done with MLEWL and the first exchange diary and am on the second one. I think for the art, one thing I really appreciated was the color. The pink really makes it stand out above all the other manga on the shelves, just because of how different it is. It also feels more inviting than the standard black and gray inks. Her characterization is also beautiful, and there was never a time where the art felt disconnected. The way it was written and the artwork/style fit perfectl

FMA

I watched all of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood when I was a sophomore in highschool I believe. I loved it so much, for many of the reasons that Macy mentioned in their presentation. The strength of all the female cast was such a pleasant thing to experience because a lot of other shounen anime I was watching at the time had a lot of not so strong women characters (like Lucy from Fairytail). Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoyed a lot of those other anime and manga despite their flaws, but nothing else at the time hit as hard as FMAB. I think it is an excellent showcase in storytelling. Everything melds together in a complete and natural way, and I think it fits well with the characters growing up throughout the story. The development is very natural is what I'm basically trying to say. Another interesting thing about this work, is that I believe it is a major factor in popularizing manga and anime based on the seven deadly sins. This series was very impactful for man

Nausicaa

Nausicaa for a long while was my favorite Ghibli film (although in the past few years it has been dethroned by Castle in the Sky). When I was in middle school, I actually bought the first volume of Nausicaa. I was really surprised by the presentation of the manga. The book was big, like, WAY taller than any of the normal manga books in the store. And it was printed in a brownish ink which made it really stand out (although looking it up, most of them seem to have been printed in the traditional black ink). The manga itself is absolutely stunning. There's so much care and detail that Miyazaki put into every panel, from the drawings, to the textures. It's also very interesting to see how accurately the anime adaption kept to the manga. I guess that's one of the perks of adapting your own work yourself! The scanalation site I found had the manga going from left to right, which was confusing to say the least. I didn't realize it until I got to the fox squirrel scene that
